Sign-ups for this month's practice session are open. I have room for two speakers: 20 minutes each, then 10 minutes of notes from the rest of us. Early drafts are very welcome. The rougher the slides, the more useful the feedback.

Reply here if you'd like a slot.

Progress report on the primary care talk: I went with the patient story opening, and the draft has somehow grown to 31 slides for a fifteen-minute slot. I'd like to bring a much shorter version to Victoria's next practice session. How do you decide what to cut when every slide feels like it earns its place?

Putting my name down for a practice session. I owe a local tech meetup a 15-minute talk on running a small network, and right now it's 40 minutes of slides. Victoria Chen, any chance of a slot in February?

Here's my rough outline so far:

  • Why patients need somewhere to turn between appointments
  • What a moderator actually does in a health community
  • The boundaries: peer support helps, but it isn't medical advice

Are three points too many for fifteen minutes? And should I open with a patient story or with numbers? My instinct says story, my training says data.

Hello, everyone. I've been asked to give a 15-minute talk on running online peer support groups at a regional primary care meeting this spring. I'm comfortable talking to one patient at a time, much less so to a room full of colleagues. Is there room for me at the next practice session?

I'm new to giving talks, but answering questions under time pressure is the one part of public speaking I've practised for years.
