    • Oh, and dogs are very welcome at the litter picks. A few of our regulars only come because their dog insists.

      • Honestly, the best part is the newcomers. Most people turn up once out of curiosity and then stay for the tea and biscuits afterwards.

        • A few things I'd tell anyone starting a volunteering group:

          • Pick one regular day and stick to it
          • Keep the first event short
          • Have one person whose only job is to say hello
          • Send a thank-you message the same evening
          • Share photos so people who missed it want to come next time
          • And a few things I learned the hard way:

            • Always have a rainy-day plan
            • Count the grabbers before and after
            • Never rely on one group chat for sign-ups
            • Ask people what they want to do, not just what needs doing
            • Rest is part of the rota too
            • Just remembered: the sign-up for the organisers' virtual meetup is pinned in Neighbourhood Organisers. Anyone is welcome, even if you're only thinking about starting something.
