How we run monthly member spotlights
One member, five questions and a photo every month, and why it is some of the best time we spend.
Once a month we feature one member: what they do, what they're working on, and how other members can help. It's a short Q&A post plus a photo.
Why we do it
Spotlights do three things at once. They make members feel seen, they give newcomers a sense of who's here, and they spark connections that wouldn't happen otherwise. More than once, a spotlight has ended with two members starting a project together.
How it works
- Nominations come from members. You can nominate someone else or yourself.
- Five questions, sent by private message: what you do, what you're working on, what you'd like help with, a community you admire, and one thing people might not guess about you.
- One photo of the member or their work, chosen by them.
- Publishing happens on the 1st of the month, with a short note in the feed.
The whole thing takes about two hours a month, most of it trimming answers. Few things we do give a better return on the time.
